Name Change Update - June 21, 2017

By way of our Strategic Planning initiative, representatives of our School District community have spent the last year pursuing several initiatives toward the achievement of one of the objectives in our District's Strategic Plan which involves "...seeking expanded opportunities to promote our distinctive brand as a premier public school district, both within our School District community and to external audiences."  One of our many initiatives was to change the name of our District from Ramapo Central to Suffern Central.

To that end, we are incredibly pleased to inform you that legislation directing the Commissioner of Education to change our name has been unanimously passed by both the State Assembly and Senate and currently awaits signature by the Governor. We would like to thank Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec and Senator David Carlucci for their support of this legislation and would like to extend the appreciation of our entire District to all who responded to surveys on this topic and who made your opinions and support heard by our Board of Education and District Administration as well as by our State legislators.

In anticipation of approval of this legislation by the Governor, the District is engaged in planning for the roll-out of our new name, the details of which we look forward to sharing publicly later this summer.

On behalf of all Suffern Mounties, we thank you for your support.
