[September 25, 2013] Superintendent of Schools Dr. Douglas Adams announced today that Cherry Lane Elementary School has been named a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School. This prestigious U.S. Department of Education recognition is reserved for schools that set a standard of excellence in striving for the highest level of achievement. It is the first-ever National Blue Ribbon designation of a Ramapo Central school.

“Cherry Lane Elementary’s recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School is a testament to the outstanding work of our students, teachers, staff and parents,” said Adams. “This award, given to only a small number of schools nation-wide, displays what our School District community is capable of when we work together. I congratulate all members of the Cherry Lane School community for their excellent work and their focus on student learning.”

Cherry Lane was nominated by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as an “Exemplary High Performing School” for ranking among the highest performing schools on state assessments. In 2012, Cherry Lane and Suffern High School were recognized as NYSED Reward Schools for sustained, significant progress on assessments.

District representatives have been invited to attend a U.S. Department of Education recognition ceremony in Washington, DC in November, where awardees will receive a plaque and flag to signify their status as National Blue Ribbon Schools.
