Advocacy Alert, September 2016

Dear Members of the Ramapo Central School District Community:

We hope that the first days of school have gone well for you and your family.

At this time, Governor Cuomo is considering whether to sign or veto important legislation which, with the support of Assemblywoman Jaffee and Senator Carlucci on behalf of the School District, has passed the New York State Assembly and Senate.  The legislation would allow Ramapo Central and other school districts to collect our own school taxes. Currently, the Town of Ramapo collects Ramapo Central's school taxes, at a cost to taxpayers of 1% of their tax bill and without any of that money being sent to support our School District.  We are confident that we can collect the school taxes at a much lower cost, which would result in a reduction in costs to our taxpayers on a going forward basis.
